Christmas Charity Donations

2011 christmas charity vote result

The organisations who received the most votes were:

Cancer Research UKHelp for Heros

RNLIOxfam

Each will receive our Christmas donation – thank you to all who took part.

Why we do it every year

In 2000, instead of buying Christmas cards, where only a small percentage of the cost goes to charity, we decided to give all of the money we would have spent on cards straight to Imperial Cancer Research.  This seemed to be a unique and popular move.

Over a decade later our original approach is no less popular particularly with the introduction of a choice of good causes to vote on, the most popular causes sharing the donation proportionally.

What the charities mean to us

Every year we try to pick a selection of good causes, covering home and abroad, environmental, forces and animal welfare issues.  Colin, being a keen sailor, introduced RNLI to the mix.  Juliet, an active supporter of her local Oxfam group, added Oxfam to the list.
